Squirrels

Squirrels is one of the five sections in Scouting. A young person will be eligible to attend Squirrels if they are between 4 and 6 years of age. As this is our first Drey we are prioritising children aged 4 years old.

All sections follow the aims of the Scout Association in promoting the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials, as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities. We will concentrate here on the Squirrel Scout section.

When and where do the 1st Hartford Squirrels Meet?

Thursdays 5-6pm at the 1st Hartford Scout Hut off Bradburns lane.

Who are Squirrel Scouts?

Squirrels can achieve anything they set their minds to – and they have lots of fun along the way.

The one hour sessions will be a brilliant opportunity for young people to take their first step into being part of Scouts, and they’ll help everyone get ready for the adventure of school too.

Sessions will be packed with outdoors activities, fun, games, badges, laughter, and so much more to help our youngest members learn the skills they need for life. Of course, none of it would be possible without the support of the amazing leaders who plan and deliver such an inspiring programme.

Qualified Leaders will host a safe and secure programme aimed specifically at 4 and 5 year olds.

Squirrel ratios are:

  • 1:6 inside plus a leader in charge
  • 1:4 outside (away from the safety of the usual meeting place) plus a leader in charge

with a minimum of 3 adults regardless of the number of Squirrels attending.
