What does it involve?

There are 4 main areas to the Duke of Edinburgh which are as follows:

Service - to encourage service to individuals and the community
Skills - to encourage the discovery and development of personal interests and socials and practical skills
Physical Recreation - to encourage participation and improvement in physical activity
Expeditions - to encourage a spirit of adventure and discovery

Plus: for the Gold Award

Residential - to broaden experience through involvement with others in a residential setting

How much time will it take?

Service

Residential

12 months

One section for 12 months and the other section for 6 months.

Plan, prepare for and undertake a 4 day, 3 night venture

Undertake a shared activity in a residential setting away from home for 5 days and 4 nights

The Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award

 

NOTE: Direct entrants must undertake a further 6 months in either the Service or the longer of the Skills or Physical Recreation Sections

 

How old do you have to be to do the Gold Award?

 

To participate in the Gold Award you have to be, at the minimum age, 16.  

 

The upper age limit for all Awards is the 25th birthday, by which time all activities which count for an Award must be completed.

 

How can I get started?

 

If you wish to get involved in the Gold Award through 1st Hartford Explorers then come along to our weekly meetings on Tuesday evenings (19:30 hrs). Contact the leaders to demonstrate interest

The Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award Registration fee is £12.
